7/6/10 - Krazl Earns Accreditation
Member Sherri Krazl Earns International Accreditation
Congratulations to Sherri Krazl of IABC’s Greater Cincinnati chapter, who has earned the Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC)!

IABC’s accreditation process measures the strategic abilities and technical skills of a communicator, and is a critical step in a communicator’s career growth. The process consists of rigorous evaluation that identifies and recognizes the highly qualified, well-rounded communicator through a review of his or her portfolio of work in addition to written and oral examinations. Candidates meeting the requirements of the process earn the ABC designation.

Krazl is Executive Director of the Clinton County Leadership Institute (www.cclead.org). She is a 20-year resident of Clinton County in Southwest Ohio, and became Executive Director in January of 2010. Sherri previously served as Communications Manager for the institute and completed the program in 2008. She also is the editor of SALT (thesaltmagazine.com), a quarterly lifestyles magazine with a distribution in Southwest Ohio counties.

Sherri graduated from Wilmington College with a B.A. in Communications and Marketing. For the past 10 years she has taught communications courses as an adjunct at her alma matter.
She has served on the boards of IABC-Greater Cincinnati, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, and was a charter member of Wilmington’s Toastmasters.

A winner of multiple IABC Quill awards, her highest award achievement was in 2006 when she won a Gold Quill international award of excellence for her work in corporate branding for her previous employer of 13 years, ABX Air, Inc.

She has over 20 years of experience in Marketing Communications as an employee and as a consultant and is an early adopter of tools and techniques that aid in communicating with a strategic multi-media approach. Krazl enjoys helping others sift through the social media jungle and focus on the basics of new media.

Sherri lives for time with her family and enjoys animals specifically dogs and horses and loves the outdoors, traveling, photography, and graphic design/computer work. Krazl and her husband David have a young daughter, Makayla.

“This is the global standard for communication professionals around the world,” said Edward Lundquist, ABC, chair of the IABC Accreditation Council.  “By undertaking this process of an application, portfolio preparation and examination, all evaluated by peer review, a communicator can determine if he or she meets that standard.  It is a professional accomplishment, but moreover it is a personal statement.”

To earn the accreditation, Krazl had to demonstrate:
  • an understanding of the goals and philosophy of organizational communication;
  • discuss the role of the communicator and communication in modern organizations;
  • present what communication can and cannot do; and
  • display the knowledge to plan, direct, implement and evaluate a broad range of communication programs applying that knowledge to practical, real-life situations.
“We see accreditation as an integral part of IABC’s commitment to the education of its members and the development of the profession in general,” said IABC president Julie Freeman, ABC, APR.
A recent study of accredited business communicators (ABCs) in seven countries found that IABC’s accreditation program is a gateway to learning and advancing the practice of strategic communication management. A large majority of the ABCs surveyed said that becoming accredited improved their résumés, increased their confidence, enhanced their credibility and gave them peer approval and recognition. A majority of current and former supervisors who participated in the study said ABCs provided more credibility to their departments or organizations, while a majority of clients perceived ABCs as having an increased understanding of effective communication practices.
There are more than 850 accredited business communicators throughout the world.
